Expository Preaching

The pastors and elders of CASM believe that the most biblical way to teach God’s Word is through expository preaching. This form of preaching involves the expositing, or comprehensive explanation, of Scripture, usually verse by verse through entire books of the Bible. To “exposit” means to expose; therefore, an expositor’s goal is to explain or expose the meaning of a passage of Scripture using what he learned as he studied the grammar, context, and historical setting of the particular text.

Expository preaching differs from topical preaching in that it focuses on explaining not only the whole of Scripture, but the background of the text under examination. A topical study would instead find passages in Scripture to make application on a particular subject.
