God, Our Father
One of my favorite times of the morning is when my children wake up. The first thing they do is come looking for Mom or Dad. Some days, an expression of delight covers their faces when they find me, and they run to embrace me or to sit in my lap. Some days, the mood is more mellow, but, even so, they seek an embrace first thing from one of us, their parents.
Not too long ago, my daughter had a friend spend the night. It struck me that, first thing in the morning, her friend went straight for the toys, looking for playtime as soon as she woke up.
I saw the comparison in our attitudes first thing in the morning: do we run after God, our Father, needing or wanting an embrace from Him, or do we run to the “toys,” or things the world has to offer?
